Jim Root Says He And Corey Taylor "Would Have Just Ended Up Killing Each Other" Had He Stayed In Stone Sour

Tensions ran high both in public and in private when guitarist Jim Root was fired from Stone Sour back in 2014, with Root at the time calling Stone Sour a “sinking ship“, among other unsavory things. In a situation that was no doubt awkward, Root and Stone Sour frontman/guitarist Jim Root both continued on as members in Slipknot, despite the bitter split.

With several years having since passed and some hindsight and healing now being applicable to the situation, Root admits he and Taylor are getting along much better now than they were when they were spending time in two bands together. Speaking in the latest issue of Metal Hammer, of which Slipknot are the cover stars, Root stated of his exit from Stone Sour:

Corey and I are much closer now. It’s the best thing, me leaving Stone Sour. We would have just ended up killing each other and driving each other crazy. I can’t spread myself that thin. I needed it, this band [Slipknot] needed it and Stone Sour certainly needed it. I just didn’t have the time to commit that I’d have liked. I think they were tired of my shitty attitude, that’s for sure.”

Christian Martucci officially replaced Root in Stone Sour back in 2015. Both Root and Taylor can be heard on Slipknot‘s impending new album “We Are Not Your Kind“, which will land in stores this Friday, August 09th.
