Slipknot are venturing into the spirits game with the forthcoming August 10th launch of their ‘No. 9 Iowa Whiskey‘. The group partnered with Iowa-based Cedar Ridge Distillery for the whiskey, using corn sourced from the aforementioned distillery’s family farm in Winthrop, IA. Two variants of the spirit are being planned, one being a 90 proof that will retail for $39.99 USD and the other a 99 proof dubbed ‘No. 9 Reserve‘ which will retail for $69.99 USD.
Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan commented on the collaboration as such:
“Slipknot and Cedar Ridge Distillery – two groups of people born and raised in Iowa, and committed to quality and hard work. We collaborated on No. 9 Whiskey, which in addition to Iowa corn, gets some extra spice from its rye content. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Live life, and always be safe.”
Cedar Ridge Distillery‘s head distiller Murphy Quint had the following to say of the end result:
“Our challenge was to produce a whiskey that represents Slipknot’s style of music; something bold, something with distinguished character, something that you don’t exactly come across every day. At the same time, it needed to be a whiskey that satisfies a true whiskey aficionado, regardless of its ties to the band. I feel that this blend of bourbon and rye hits that mark.”
The spirit will be available throughout the band’s forthcoming summer headlining tour with further details available at slipknotwhiskey.com. Various launch events, bottle signings and bar takeovers are also being planned. If you’re curious about the taste, Forbes.com got their hands on it and also interviewed Crahan about it. When asked by Forbes why the band decided to launch a whiskey now, he replied:
“Why not? I start everything. I want to do everything, but I’m not like a lot of people that just do things to do it. I have to have a quality base. I don’t come directly at anything in this world for just money. I do it for quality to give people something new. It’s kind of like being in music.
We feel proud to bring our new music every four years. After we write an album, we tour the world. We’re proud to do that, you know. Same thing with the whiskey: I’m proud to be able to give our fans and the rest of the world a fine quality whiskey and with Cedar Ridge.”
Slipknot‘s new album “We Are Not Your Kind” will be in stores on August 10th.
