Anthrax Pull Out Some Setlist Surprises, Actor Jason Momoa Attends Band’s Budapest Show With Slayer

Anthrax had some setlist surprises for those in attendance during their June 08th show at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt, Germany. Their track “Now It’s Dark” off 1988’s “State Of Euphoria” got its first proper live performance since 1992 at the show.

Meanwhile, “The Devil You Know” was played for the first time since 2013, while “Earth On Hell” got its first play since 2012. You can watch the band rip through the track a day later at the ‘Rock Hard Festival‘ in Gesenkirchen, Germany below with “Now It’s Dark” starting at around 39:25 in.

The band’s guitarist Scott Ian also spoke of revisiting the track with Rock Hard, offering the following (via Blabbermouth):

“I’ll be honest — I was nervous. We didn’t rehearse it. We played it one time at soundcheck, and it felt really good at soundcheck. Everybody learned it at home before we came out. I think everyone was just very excited to bring that song back. And then during the show, it was my favorite song of the night. So, yeah, I was very, very happy with it. It was cool. It felt like a new song. Like, ‘Wow! We have this new song to play now.’

So who knows? Maybe that opens the door for other old songs that we didn’t think we would maybe bring back. Although we’ve been talking about some other songs off of ‘Persistence [of Time]’ — certainly maybe next year, because it’ll be the 30th anniversary of that album. I don’t think we’ll play the whole album or anything like that, but there’s other songs we haven’t played in a long time that would be cool to bring back. But yeah, ‘Now It’s Dark’ was great.”

On a related note, the band’s gig as direct support to Slayer last night (June 11th) in Budapest, Hungary was attended by a famous metalhead, actor Jason Momoa (‘Aquaman‘, ‘Game Of Thrones‘, etc.) Both Slayer and Anthrax shared various shots of them hanging out together backstage:
