Mastodon’s Troy Sanders To Join Thin Lizzy For Select Shows This Summer

Mastodon vocalist/bassist Troy Sanders is set to step into the role made famous by the iconic Phil Lynott when he joins Thin Lizzy as their touring bassist for a number of festival appearances this summer. Unlike Lynott though, Ricky Warwick will be handling the lead vocals at the shows. Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham commented of Sanders stepping in:

“We are very happy to welcome Troy to the Lizzy family! We met a few years ago at Download Festival and he’s a great guy and killer bass player to boot so very happy he wanted to join us for the shows this summer.”

Sanders himself added:

“It’s no secret that Thin Lizzy has had a big influence on Mastodon’s music. Being asked to join them on stage is a big deal and true honor to me. I am really looking forward to it!”

You can catch Sanders out with the band at the following dates:

07/27 Ebbw Vale, UK – Steelhouse Festival (“Black Rose” album set)
08/04 Macclesfield, UK – Rewind North Festival
08/07 Alicante, SPA – Leyendas Del Rock Festival
08/10 Kortrijk, BEL – Alcataraz Festival

While the influence of Thin Lizzy has indeed cropped up in Mastodon‘s music over the years, Mastodon themselves also direcly paid tribute to the act with the below cover of the band’s “Emerald” quite a few years back now.
