Since disbanding the Devin Townsend Project back in January of 2018, Devin Townsend has been indulging wholly in his own artistic freedom. While immediate touring plans have seen Townsend touring acoustically—something he plans to continue doing this spring on this North American tour with Avatar, Dance With The Dead and ’68—he also intends to resume touring with a more traditional band format this fall.
Of course when it comes to Townsend, traditional isn’t exactly the best way to describe his plans. While his forthcoming European/UK tour with Haken is expected to see him once again performing onstage with a backing band, it seems there won’t be a one size fits all lineup.
Instead as Townsend mentioned today (April 21st) in the below tweet, there will apparently be a different cast of characters depending on the show/tour:
Ive been auditioning people Ive had my eye on for upcoming tours. Basically my plan is to do different tours with different bands over the next few years…each specializing in different styles in different territories, then ending with a handful of ‘Empath in full’ shows in 2021
