If you want to peel back an extra layer on Slayer vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, a new interview conducted with his daughter Ariel offers some more insight into the man as well as his children. One potentially unexpected tidbit is that Tom is apparently familiar with the songs from the ‘Minions‘ series of movies and frequently sings them to his young granddaughter. Leontina.

“I’m not sure who the artist of the song is, but he’ll sing ‘Take You Riding In My Car‘ [presumably the Woody Guthrie track] to her. He also sings any songs from the ‘Minions‘ movie soundtrack, like ‘Happy Together‘ by The Turtles. She gets the biggest baby doll eyes and laughs and showers him in kisses.”
Of course it’s hard to picture Tom crooning children’s friendly songs considering the lyrics he’s been belting out for the past few decades. But it’s comforting to know that he’ll be keeping his pipes active as he prepares to hang it all up following the end of Slayer‘s farewell tour sometime in the months to come.
