Slayer vocalist/bassist Tom Araya has seemingly dipped his toe into politics again, this time posting a list of conservative leaning humor that includes comparisons such as:
“If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.”- Advertisement -“If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.”“If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.”
Along with the list, which you can see below, Araya himself offered:
“With all the crazy shit going on I have to ask.
I sit on the fence of reason
Comments an opinions welcomed.”
Given the current political climate, it’s not surprising that the comments on the post quickly erupted with over 1,500 made as of press time. It’s also no surprise that it all unfolded about how you’d expect with some fans claiming Araya earned even more of their respect, while others were left offended and angry.
Of course words like ‘based’, ‘snowflakes’, and more also came up frequently as well. Araya himself followed up a bit in the comments, giving thumbs up to the following two comments made by the respective users named below:
“incredibleretard: “I don’t think fair to say of liberals nor correct of all conservatives either. I’m on the fence too and I’ve seen interventionists on both sides and as well those respectful of other’s choices on both sides. But that’s just me.”
annascicluna_: “This would make me conservative though although I’m not? Not all liberals are crybabys although sadly there are the radicals who ruin it for everyone”
Araya‘s bandmate, guitarist Gary Holt (also of Exodus,) jumped into the fray as well, offering:
“garyholt_official: Not to mention any critical comment on our current president is met with fury not laughs😆❗️”
Holt later replied to another user, stating:
“the_ozzman_cometh_: I wonder what @garyholt_official thinks
“garyholt_official: @the_ozzman_cometh_ this. I know a lot of conservatives who work at Waffle House or Denny’s would like to know where this employee sponsored health care is! Or how they can afford it working at Walmart selling patriotic goods made overseas!😆”
Araya previously ignited a similar controversy back in 2017 when he shared an image of Slayer and U.S. President Donald Trump, along with some questionable comments on Instagram. Unlike this latest post however, the previous one was made via Slayer‘s official Instagram account.
At the time, other members of Slayer seemingly distanced themselves from the matter, including Slayer guitarist Kerry King. In an April 2017 interview, Araya later stated of that controversy:
“That’s what America has become. It’s become a bunch of people that… because they didn’t get their way, they’re mad. I shared a picture that I thought was funny. They can’t even joke. They can’t even laugh at themselves. They can’t even have fun. And that just is amazing that it’s come to that. We’re a nation of crybabies.”
