Newly Discovered Fossil Species Named After Between The Buried And Me


Just under a decade ago Between The Buried And Me wrote the song “Fossil Genera (A Feed From Cloud Mountain)” and now they have a fossil of a newly discovered species of brittle star named after them. The species was discovered in South Carolina by paleontologists by Drs John Jagt, Lea Numberger-Thuy and Ben Thuy from the Natural History Museum in Luxembourg. They coined it, ‘Amphilimna intersepultosetme’, which translates to ‘Between The Buried And Me‘ in Latin. It is thought to have lived some 67 million years ago. Presumably it would be Ben Thuy who pushed for the name, having previously named a species after Arch Enemy.

Between The Buried And Me bassist Dan Briggs commented of the honor:

“We are honored to have been thought of alongside this little magical creature who swam in the waters of the Carolinas many years before us and we’ll be linked together for many years to come.”
