Having been touring this year in support of the 20th anniversary of the band’s 1998 album, “Water & Solutions“, Far frontman Jonah Matranga aims to take his return to the works of his earlier band a step further. To that end he’s launched this Kickstarter to help fund the release of a collection of rare and previously unreleased material from the Far archives. He commented of that:
“Between writing Alone Rewinding and doing all I can to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Water & Solutions, I’ve been digging through ALL the boxes. In the process, I’ve discovered a bunch of Far music that I hadn’t heard in years, or maybe ever — songs and versions of songs that I can’t remember writing, playing, or hearing.
- Advertisement -It definitely felt like I was listening to some of these recordings for the first time. 20-ish years in, it holds up well. Some of it feels especially magical to me, like when new-Dad me sings about Hannah in the song I used for this project’s video. The first time I heard it, I actually got chills.
Far was pretty on fire during the making of Water & Solutions; perpetually touring, moving fast, trying to figure out who we were as individuals and as a band. Most of this music will be from around that time, in celebration of the anniversary and all. That said, I’m also using this project as a great excuse to finally release all the other unreleased Far stuff from before and after Water & Solutions.
So many people have asked for different recordings over the years. This project is about putting it all together, preserving and presenting it as well as possible, and getting it to anyone that wants it — all in the most personal way possible.
As you’ll see, I’ve got some simple options for vinyl, custom clothing, handwritten lyrics, house shows, and Unique Recordings… and really it’s just about sharing this rediscovered music, and letting go. One way or another, please be a part of this, and help me spread the word to anyone that ever loved Far. Thx for listening to and living these ideas with us.

Matranga continues to tour in support of the twentieth anniversary of “Water & Solutions” with a new leg of U.S. touring due to kickoff this week. That trek will find The Pauses both opening the shows and serving as his backing band for the Far set.
