It seems that System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian isn’t the only one giving up hope on a new album from the band. Malakian previously shelved his soon to be released new album “Dictator“ from his Scars On Broadway project for a number of years in case he wanted to use some of the song ideas from it in System Of A Down.
While System Of A Down did write roughly fifteen new songs in the past few years, their inability to get in the studio to record them and agree on album cycle, etc. has kept the effort from materializing
Now comes word from the band’s frontman Serj Tankian, who in an official newsletter sent out to fans, revealed that he has roughly five tracks he wrote for System Of A Down which he now plans to rework, potentially for an upcoming solo EP or film soundtrack. He said of that:
“I have five rock songs that I wanted I do with SOAD but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna work out, so I am finishing those up to release them as a solo EP or possibly as a soundtrack for my film cause they are interrelated.”
Tankian also remains busy with the world of film, having wrapped a score this year for an upcoming film ‘Spitak‘, about a man searching for his family in the aftermath of an Armenian earthquake in the 1980s. His long-gestating Fuktronic project with Mindless Self Indulgence‘s Little Jimmy Urine is also still apparently in the works as well, among other projects.
Though System Of A Down can’t seem to get it together in the studio, the band will be touring later this year:
10/13 San Bernardino, CA – Glen Helen Amphitheater (feat. Incubus, At The Drive In, Clutch, etc.)
10/14 Sacramento, CA – Aftershock Festival
With At The Drive In & Skeletonwitch:
10/16 Phoenix, AZ – Talking Stick Resort Arena
10/17 San Diego, CA – Valley View Casino Center
10/19 Las Vegas, NV – T-Mobile Arena
