Refused, etc. frontman Dennis Lyxzén and Scorpions/ex-Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee delivered an unconventional cello-aided version of Metallica‘s “Whiplash” at today’s (June 14th) Polar Music Prize awards ceremony. Members of Metallica were in attendance to accept Sweden’s Polar Music Prize at the event. You can watch pro-shot footage of that performance here.
That Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 and rewards musicians annually for: “significant achievements in music and/or musical activity, or for achievements which are found to be of great potential importance for music or musical activity.” Along with the award comes a prize of 1 million Swedish krona ($125,000 USD,) which the band have pledged towards their own charity, the All Within My Hands Foundation.
