Update May 27th, 2018 11:20am:
As it turns out, this song isn’t the long missing in action cover Deftones frontman Chino Moreno recorded with Death Valley High. The confusion stemmed from Death Valley High originally teasing it would be a “cruel summer” during the lead-up to the planned release of their since scrapped “Duel” EP back in 2015. Given the limited evidence, it was presumed the cover had originated on that release.
Instead Moreno recorded this cover with his Palms bandmate Aaron Harris (ex-Isis) and composer Kris Dirksen. The cover was recorded for Methodicdoubt.com, with potential plans to licensed it for movie trailers and more.
Original Story:
Back in 2015 Death Valley High (ex-Tinfed) teamed up for a cover of Bananarama‘s “Cruel Summer” with Deftones, etc. frontman Chino Moreno guesting on vocals. The collaborative take was to appear on a Death Valley High covers EP titled “Duel“ that also featured a number of other guests, and was originally set for a May 2015 release.
While the EP never materialized, the aforementioned cover has surfaced online. You can find the track in the player located below, which showcases a variety of featured artists from Methodic Artists, who represent Moreno, Puscifer and more. For more on that venture, head here.
