Avenged Sevenfold To Skip The GRAMMY Awards In Protest Of Rock/Metal Awards Not Being Televised

Avenged Sevenfold won’t be in attendance at the GRAMMY Awards this coming Sunday, January 28th, having taken issue with how the awards handle the rock & metal categories. As recent years have shown, the metal and hard rock genres are often largely ignored by the main broadcast with the relevant awards for the genres airing on a pre-show held in a different venue.

While Body Count‘s apparent performance on this weekend’s pre-show is a step in the right direction, it’s not enough for Avenged Sevenfold as their frontman M. Shadows tweeted earlier this week:

Given last year’s Metallica/Lady Gaga debacle and Metallica being played while Megadeth won their first Grammy, Avenged Sevenfold‘s decision isn’t too surprising. The awards ceremony will be held on January 28th in New York City, NY. Avenged Sevenfold are nominated for ‘Best Rock Song’ with their track “The Stage“. You can find the other relevant nominees up for awards this weekend here.
