Deftones Members Reflect On “Around The Fur” Turning 20 In New Mini-Documentary

Deftones vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno and guitarist Stephen Carpenter discuss their 1997 sophomore album “Around The Fur” in a newly released mini-documentary put out by Revolver. The two open up on the process of making the album, including Chi Cheng pondering leaving the band to pursue a teaching career, hiring producer Terry Date because of his work from Pantera, “My Own Summer (Shove It)” being written in the studio and more.

Moreno said of the effort:

“I think a lot of people don’t credit our second record enough to where it really opened up from being what was then ‘nü metal’—or whatever the new genre was that we were just kind of getting thrown into… I really think we started separating ourselves from all our peers on that record.”

Around The Fur” will officially turn 20 on October 28th.
