Marilyn Manson Details Past Feud With Trent Reznor, Shares Recent Texts With Justin Bieber

Marilyn Manson appeared on the ‘The Howard Stern Show‘ this morning (September 19th) and among other things, revealed that his beef with Justin Bieber has been put to bed. Bieber originally drew Manson‘s ire after telling him that he ‘made him relevant again’ by printing up a t-shirt that featured Manson‘s image on it. Manson later obtained the profits for said shirt and referred to Bieber as being a ‘piece of shit’ for having the arrogance to say something like that to him.

To clear up the matter, Manson allowed Stern to read aloud a recent text exchange between himself and Bieber. That conversation reads as follows:

“Bro, it’s Bieber what’s up with that article? I thought we had a pretty pleasant interaction. Also, if anything wasn’t squared away with the T-shirts I’m so sorry. Anyway, regardless, it kind of stung seeing that if I came off as an asshole or was just an asshole I’m sorry?”

Manson replied with “words.” As he explained “That’s what I say to girls when they talk.” Manson‘s exchange with Bieber continued: “That [the interview] was exaggerated. You were just you being you. No beef here.” When asked by Stern if that meant the hatchet had been buried, Manson replied with a laugh: “I just said ‘you were just being you,’ which could mean you’re just being an asshole, or whatever.”

Bieber offered back:

“Honestly, I totally thought we hit it off. Again, my bad, if I was an asshole that wasn’t my intention. Just want you to know that.” Manson responded: “We are cool. People just made that shirt stuff into a fake feud. Let’s turn it upside-down and fuck the press and do something together. It will be the best. And don’t apologize, you weren’t an asshole. They asked if you were and I sort of agreed. I wasn’t out to get you.”

Manson later agreed to not shit talk Bieber, to which Bieber thanked him. Though he did later go on to say that he has some concerns for Bieber, who recently turned to religion after a series of cancelled concerts. He also discussed his relationship with Nine Inch NailsTrent Reznor, whom he was estranged with for a number of years, but recently mended fences with. He said of that:

“Since the past, Trent and I have talked and we’re friends again…”

Upon further pressing, he offered:

“We had a falling out and I’ll tell you what it was about. We were in New Orleans. New Orleans is, I will call it a sinister place. It’s not on the barometer of good and evil. It’s a sinister place, it’s a very unusual place… It’s an energy thing, I can’t really describe it. I wouldn’t want to stay there, ever.

We made… We were very close, but he was a great producer and he made that record happen, “Antichrist Superstar“, no doubt about it.

He was the one who decided to find me and he fought for me and everything. And it took me awhile… I remember him playing me “Broken“, his first EP for Interscope, it was amazing, still is.

I was just saying on the way over here, I just listened to “Broken” four times last night.”

Stern went on to mention that he felt that Reznor and Manson appeared to even share clothing in some of his videos around the era, with Manson saying: “We were like brothers that way.” He then continued:

“So, we go to New Orleans and we had a falling out at the end of making “Antichrist Superstar“. And it was drug related on everyone’s part. I won’t incriminate him on anything. We were all on drugs so to speak. Trent came to me and said ‘we need to stop doing drugs.’

The very next day, I listened to him. He was like my mentor, so I stopped doing drugs. Then things changed and I was the nerd. I was the—at the time I think there was a McDonalds sandwich that came out for adults called the Arch Deluxe—that’s what it was called. And I never ate it, but that was my nickname. Twiggy and Trent called me Arch Deluxe.

I hated it because they said, don’t do drugs, so I stopped. That simple.”

“I was made fun of for doing it, but I had to finish the record. I was that determined, I knew the record was that important. As important as the record I just made which we’ll get to.

So I didn’t speak to Trent because at the time when you make an album it’s on a hard drive and it’s also on a tape machine. And I just remember when we got in a fight and he kicked me out of the studio, that he smashed the hard drive. So for many years I thought that the masters for “Antichrist Superstar” were destroyed.”

“I just felt heartbroken and mad and never wanted to talk to him, because I just thought how would you destroy something that you also made.

Later I discovered—strangely through Tyler Bates talking to Trent—Because we didn’t talk, we actually talked to each other once. We did meet one more time when he wrote a song called “Starfuckers Inc.” and it was about me. So I told my manager Tony who I’ve been with for a long time; he used to have a pizza shop in Cleveland called ‘The Italian Touch’—sounds a little bit creepy right?…

So Tony was the one who used to work at Nothing Records. And he was there when Trent created the label and he went on to manage me.

But I later found out after doing the ‘Starfuckers‘ video—which I thought we’d made amends—but then it was just awkward because I just had a pent up resentment because I thought that he had ruined my career, like the history of my career. Like burning the dead sea scrolls or something.

But he ran into Tyler Bates at some thing regarding scoring, because he had done the Facebook movie—which I thought was an amazing score. And Tyler Bates was doing the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy‘, I think, the first one.

And he told me that Trent wanted to get in contact with me and gave me his number and I talked to him and he told me that he had the masters still. Which made me very happy, but the anger was gone.”

When asked about the barbs slung by Reznor in the years that followed their initial falling out, Manson said “Who cares. None of that was important.” He elaborated: “The only anger was just about how could you destroy something we created together, that was it. Words are words…”

He also mentioned a possible shared sexual experience on their earlier touring together: “We may or may not have had a threesome together and normally threesomes are with two girls and a guy. I’m just saying, we might have.” When asked if he shared a woman with him, he replied “I dunno. I don’t think I shared it.” He added: “I may or may not have walked out of the situation, if it had happened. [laughs]

He continued:

“Cause I think two guys and a girl is more like a gangbang. I wouldn’t have… Threesomes, I don’t like threesomes, just for the record. It thought for so many years—you were talking about love earlier—I had this conversation with my ex-wife [Dita Von Teese] after ten years, I said ‘do you remember the time we weren’t married and we were in Zurich and you said hey, why don’t I go pick up some hot goth girls and bring ’em backstage, and she brought two girls. And I was just finishing my show, leaning back looking cool. Wearing my hat, stripe across my face. Tight dick player. I have that tattoo by the way, TDP…

And she brings back two girls, so she picks the hot one and starts making out with her, so what do I do? I get stuck with the dud. But then I get punched and then I didn’t realize for ten years, it was a foursome because there were not three people in the room. And then I asked her ‘why did you hit me?’ And she said ‘You’re supposed to stare at your girlfriend having sex with the hot girl.’ I said: “But it was my concert, why did you stick me with the dud?’ So no threesomes, it’s an extra crying, bleeding machine in the morning. If someone’s gonna cry in the morning, it’s probably gonna be me.”

Manson also stated that he recently shot two music videos for the tracks “Say10” and “Kill4Me“, both with his friend, actor Johnny Depp, and one of them apparently finds them wrestling. Both tracks are included on Manson‘s forthcoming album, “Heaven Upside Down“, out October 06th.
