Kiss‘ Gene Simmons has addressed the backlash he faced after trying to trademark the devils horns gesture earlier this year. Simmons had originally argued that the gesture was first seen to have been used by him back on November 14th, 1974 and was seeking to trademark it for use in: “entertainment, namely, live performances by a musical artist; personal appearances by a musical artist.”
He was met with widespread backlash following his initial application and his previous comments that he had lifted the gesture from Spider-Man certainly didn’t help his case. He later withdrew his application. When asked by the Windsor Star if he had any regrets about attempting to trademark the gesture , he replied:
“I regret nothing. Wake up every morning and let your conscience be your guide. Did you know I own the money bag logo? The dollar sign with the bag of money. I own all kinds of things. I own ‘motion pictures’ as a trademark. Anyone who thinks that’s silly — the silliest thing I’ve ever done is wear more makeup and higher heels than your mommy. People said, ‘You can’t do that.’ Actually, bitch — I can. I can do anything I want to do.”
