Metallica vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield has weighed in on the controversy generated by the Kylie and Kendall Jenner‘s ill-fated line of shirts that saw the two merely imposing pictures of themselves over designs of shirts from various rock and rap icons. The pair quickly pulled the line and apologized following legal action and widespread backlash. Hetfield told ET Canada of the shirts:
“I guess what they were thinking is, ‘We can do whatever we want.’ To me, it’s disrespectful. We’ve spent thirty-six years working hard, doing our best to keep a really close connection with people, make every note count, and someone just throws something up over something that we feel… Not that it’s sacred or anything, but show some respect.”
