Metallica's James Hetfield: "…And Justice For All Could Use A Little More Low End..."

Though fans can dream, it doesn’t look as though there will ever be an official version of Metallica‘s 1988 album, “…And Justice For All” that features proper levels of bass. If you’re somehow new to the works of Metallica, the band infamously kept incoming bassist Jason Newsted‘s performance on the album low in the mix on that effort. Vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield recently told Red Bulletin:

“There are things I would like to change on some of the records, but it gives them so much character that you can’t change them. I find it a little frustrating when bands re-record classic albums with pretty much the same songs and have it replace the original. It erases that piece of history.”

“These records are a product of a certain time in life; they’re snapshots of history and they’re part of our story. OK, so ‘…And Justice for All‘ could use a little more low end and ‘St. Anger‘ could use a little less tin snare drum, but those things are what make those records part of our history.”

You never know though, with the band now owning the rights to their catalog and slowly working through the extensive process of reissuing their earlier efforts, there may one day be a bonus disc that could rectify the decades old complaint from fans.
