Mastodon’s Brann Dailor Elaborates On New Album Concept, Reveals Tentative Track Titles


Mastodon‘s forthcoming new album remains untitled according to a new interview with drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor. got word from him on the effort, which as he stated again, is largely conceptually about cancer. Being Mastodon however, the band have weaved their own story to tell the tale, with it apparently centering around a protagonist who according to Rolling Stone: is: “handed a death sentence from a desert ruler, and then wanders an arid wasteland – a metaphor for illness and doom.”

“At the end of the story, the person simultaneously dies and is saved. It’s about going through cancer, going through chemotherapy and all the things associated with that. I didn’t want to be literal about it. But it’s all in there. You can read between the lines.”

The above-mentioned article also has some initial impressions on a few new songs from the effort, including “Show Yourself“, “Steambreather“, “Precious Stones” and “Your Own Blood“.
