Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor recently joked on the BBC2‘s comedy show ‘No Such Thing As The News‘ that the band’s percussionist, M. Shawn Crahan had changed his nickname from “Clown” to “Mime” in the wake of the scary clown sightings/attacks taking place as of late. He told the program:
“Even our dear Clown has downgraded himself to Mime, in order to distance himself from these hedonistic doppelgangers until the coast is clear. Remember, a real clown doesn’t need a knife to intimidate – just a bat and a good cold stare.”
The whole thing was of course a joke, though it went over the heads of some publications who then ran it as fact. Taylor himself has since clarified via Twitter:

No, Clown did NOT change his name. That was a FAKE statement for @qipodcast THAT I WROTE for humor’s sake.
