Research Vessel Named After Soundgarden

A new research vessel has taken its name from Seattle, WA grunge legends, Soundgarden. The vessel has been christened the ‘SoundGuardian‘ and will monitor water quality in the Puget Sound, WA area as well as take on environmental emergency calls. Band drummer Matt Cameron (also of Pearl Jam) commented:

“We’ve won Grammys and we’ve won, you know, a few awards through the years. But this is a real special one because it’s tied into our city and, you know, the culture that we have here. So we’re real, we’re very proud to be a part of it.”

The vessel received its name as the result of a contest, but has since earned the support of the band itself. For more on that, check out and their below video report. In less aquatic news, new material for the band’s next album is currently in the works.
