Former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza passed last night, May 21st, while performing his band OHM: during a set at the Baked Potato in Studio City, CA. He was 51-years-old. According to an official statement, he collapsed during the third song of the band’s set and is thought to have suffered a massive heart attack. His bandmates in OHM: commented
“RIP Nick Menza. In the brief time I knew you, it was a pleasure. We will miss you “Machine””
His former bandmate in Megadeth David Ellefson also commented:
“Condolences to the Nick Menza family and friends. We have lost a gentle giant… A true artist and friend to us all.”
Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman has commented, while Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine met the news with shock:
“We all know the great and unique drummer that Nick Menza was, but he was also a trustworthy friend, a hilarious bandmate, as well as a very loving dad. I`m beyond sad, did not see this coming at all. RIP Brother.”
