Thanks to some deceptive clickbait articles, Tool, etc. frontman Maynard James Keenan came under fire from fans over his recent comments regarding Tool‘s more overzealous fans. The context to Keenan‘s comments referenced those who missed out on the humor and levity in the band’s songs, instead taking the material and mystique far too seriously.
Keenan was quoted as calling those extremists “insufferable” and “retards”. That context was lost in the numerous stories that emerged from the article and Keenan himself has clarified via Twitter:
