Chaka Malik Of Orange 9mm/Burn Returns With Synth-Driven Project Ghost Decibels

Chaka Malik of Orange 9mm/Burn fame has dipped into synth territory with his latest endeavor, Ghost Decibels. A number of tracks from the project can be heard via Soundcloud. Speaking recently with, Malik said of the project:

Ghost Decibels comes from taking a snapshot of what moves me in music, that I haven’t explored yet. I’ve been into synths and drum machines since I was a kid, programming hip-hop in my early teens. I stopped messing with synths when I got into hardcore. After taking some time off from music altogether, I got into acoustic guitars and recording.

Playing with reverbs and delays in the recording/mixing process piqued my interest in oscillation. I asked my friend Ryan Martin (Dais Records) what mono synth he would recommend, because I wanted to play with oscillators and stuff. It was a toss up at the time between the DSI Pro 1 and the Korg MS 20 Mini. I ended up getting the MS 20 and I was off to the races.”

In keeping with the mining of the past, a 5-song cassette from the project is expected in October, Below you can watch the video for “Into The Wild“:
