Clutch Drummer Says The Bad Brains Inspired Him To Become A Musician

You can thank the Bad Brains for Clutch‘s Jean-Paul Gaster getting serious about playing music. He told in the below interview conducted by The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s own Ben Weinman:

“I do what I do probably because I saw the Bad Brains at the 9:30 Club in 1989. And for me that was church. I’d seen bands before, I’d tried other things, I’d tried other professions. But, that night for me was a spiritual experience and I realized then that that’s what I want to do, and I’m still trying to do that.”

He also spoke of the bands forthcoming album “Psychic Warfare” (out September 18th,) describing it as upbeat and having “more dynamic range.” To that end, he cited it having blues and funk elements.
