Deftones Tap Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell For New Album Cameo

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has revealed that Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell tracked a guest spot on their new album. Moreno confirmed the news in the following interview with KOMP 92-3. Moreno also mentioned again that he is still in the midst of finishing up the vocals for the effort, which is tentatively due out September 25th. Speaking on the cameo, Moreno stated:

Jerry is on the new album. I didn’t know if he wanted anyone to know or not… He came in and there’s this one track, in the demo stages of it, I was like there’s this hole in there. In Deftones songs there’s not really any guitar solos per se, but there is a section in there that is not typically a solo, but it had an area where it could use something like what he does, especially his style and just the way he plays guitar. So I sent him the track and he then like sent it back like two days later. So when we recorded the song, he came in and laid it down. It’s just awesome. You’re hearing a Deftones song, but then a little bit of Alice In Chains and it’s kind of neat. Me, as a fan, I was just kicked back with a little tear coming out of my eye.”

Alice In Chains and Deftones have of course toured together in the past and also share management via Velvet Hammer Music.
