Metal Musicians & Security Experts Discuss Whether Or Not Venues Are Safer 10 Years After Dimebag's Death

A report running over at Rollingstone.com examines how security at venues has been impacted by the onstage murder of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and others ten years ago to this day (December 08th.) Members of Cannibal Corpse, We Are Harlot and others weigh in on the lasting effect of that tragic event, where a crazed fan jumped onstage and shot and killed Abbott, crew, staff and a fan.

One such expert, Paul Wertheimer, a veteran concert-security consultant of Crowd Management Strategies gives a bleak assessment:

“Precautions have not really been taken in the industry, and artists are at risk. Little has changed in a business where the biggest stars playing the most expensive concerts get the best security while cash-strapped clubs must simply hope no crazy people walk in bearing arms.”
