Sumerian Records Founder’s SoundCheck Hollywood Music Store Closes Its Doors

You might recall that back in 2011 Sumerian Records, etc. founder Ash Avildsen put his money where his mouth is and opened up a metal/rock retail music store on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, CA.

That venture has now sadly closed its doors as of the beginning of this month (September.) Avildsen was able to use his various connections to host numerous in-store signings and such at the store during its run. Speaking of the decision to close, the following statement was issued:

“It comes with great sadness to announce the upcoming closing of SoundCheck Hollywood. For the last 3 1/2 years, we have made a mark on the sunset strip by connecting bands with their fans and did our best to help keep the music scene alive on sunset. It has been an uphill battle for us since day one but we did our best to bring something new and unique to the strip.

With the recent closures of various clubs / landmarks on sunset it has become more clear than ever that this isn’t a place where a lifestyle music store can survive.

Thank you to all the fans / customers we have had over the years and all the support you have given us!”
