Metallica’s Kirk Hammett To Guest On New Exodus Album

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has contributed a guest solo on the new Exodus track “Salt In The Wound“. Hammett was originally  a member of that outfit prior to joining Metallica and told Rolling Stone of his recent work with them:

“It felt really casual, really cool – just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day. Me, recording a solo on their album was a huge thing for me. Other than the Exodus demo that’s been heard by a lot of people, it’s the only time I ever recorded with Exodus. It was a huge thing for me.”

“I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary comes in and plays another solo, and you know what? I listened to that and thought, ‘Wow, it’s 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other’s heads off with our guitar solos.’ Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys. I’ve only known them for most of my life, so I’m really happy that I finally got to record with them.”

Producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Amon Amarth) has been overseeing the new Exodus album which sees the return of vocalist Steve Souza. Meanwhile, Hammett will again take to the stage with Exodus tonight as part of a Fear FestEvil After Party. His Metallica bandmate Robert Trujillo and more special guests will also be on hand for a unique set that is expected to feature 10-12 covers.

Hammett tells Rolling Stone he expects they will cover “The Real Me” by The Who, Kool And The Gang‘s “Jungle Boogie“, Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Diary Of A Madman” and more.
