Newsted have now officially cancelled their appearances at the ‘Soundwave Festival‘ and their ‘Soundwave Festival‘ appearances. ‘Soundwave Festival‘ organizer AJ Maddah confirmed the news today, tweeting:
“I am heartbroken that @JasonCNewsted will not be joining us at #SW14 We both look forward to bringing you a headline tour later this year.”

Responding to fans in the tweets that followed, Maddah offered:
“Jason Newsted is good as gold and a top guy. he would not disappoint his fans unless it was an emergency”
“Yep. We lost Megadeth because I stood by Newsted and now they cancelled. : (“
Word of Newsted‘s impending cancellation broke yesterday after the following message was briefly posted on Jason Newsted‘s Facebook:
“The NEWSTED Band will not be appearing or performing live in February or March 2014.”
The cancellation appears to have been very last minute as their gear arrived in Australia. It is the latest twist in a bizarre saga that arose from Megadeth‘s camp apparently taking issue with being booked for ‘Sidewave‘ shows alongside Newsted. That conflict eventually saw Megadeth exit the tour.
In related news, Hardcore Superstar have also dropped off the bill after apparently being unhappy with their billing. The group said of that:
“We are so sorry to inform you that HCSS are no longer attending Soundwave Festival 2014. Only days before our flight, changes were made and placed HCSS in a spot that was too far away from our original agreement.
We hope to be back under other circumstances as soon as possible.
Again, We´re so sorry for this.
/HCSS”
Meanwhile, Whitechapel dropped off of the festival due to a death in the family.
