Ex-The Mars Volta vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala (also of At The Drive-In fame) has shared numerous details for his upcoming new ‘solo’ album. Recording sessions have been underway for the outing this weekend at Seahorse Sound studio in Los Angeles, CA.
Bixler-Zavala is handling the vocals/guitar duties for the sessions with Jonny Polonsky on guitars/keys/lap steel, etc.; Juan Alderete (ex-The Mars Volta) on bass and Gregory Rogove on drums.
Speaking recently through Twitter, Bixler-Zavala warned that the album won’t be a ‘rock record’. Of that he said:
“Just finished recording 3 extra songs for my record with Noah Georgeson. Gotta finish singing on them. Very excited by it.”
“Lots of desert ballad space jams, lots of harmonies, lots of lap steel and piano. Lots of AM radio love songs. Short bitter sweet luv songs”
“Be warned I’m not making a rock record. It might lightly rock but not like I’m known for.”
Touring is planned in support of the album when it eventually sees a release. Expect more details to emerge in the coming months.
