Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne took the time to chat with Mxdwn.com and discussed a number of the bands future plans and side projects. Most interestingly he confirmed that a series of covers are in the works with various musicians, offering:

“I don’t want to tell yet, because we’re not done with them yet. We’re going to do a compilation, and then we’re going to put out single records, 12 inches. A whole bunch of tribute records that we’re doing, lots of people we like.”

Among the artists they have been collaborating with are Scott Kelly of Neurosis on Venom covers; Roxy Music covers with Jello Biafra and ex-Melvins bassist Kevin Rutmanis and Queen covers with Caleb Bird of Tweak Bird.

When the topic shifted to whether or not a new Fantômas album was in the works, he replied:

“That’s absolute nonsense. No way that anything like that has happened. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. But right now, no, that’s not happening.”

When asked if any new material for the aforementioned supergroup has been written he stated:

“None at all. We haven’t been in a studio since 2003. Patton’s project. If he wants to do it, I’ll work around it. His schedule. We haven’t done a live show since 2008. Honestly, I have no idea.”
