The “Metal Masters 3″ event took place at the Key Club in Hollywood, CA yesterday, April 12th. The event featured unique solo and collaborative performances from the likes of:
Phil Anselmo (Down, ex-Pantera)
David Ellefson (Megadeth)
Kerry King (Slayer)
Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
Mike Portnoy (Adrenaline Mob, ex-Dream Theater)
Frank Bello (Anthrax)
Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
Chris Broderick (Megadeth)
Perhaps the most memorable set of the night saw Anselmo persevere through faulty microphones and lead the ‘band’ through a Slayer cover and a host of Pantera staples including “Mouth For War“, “Walk“, “This Love” and more.
Black Sabbath‘s Geezer Butler joined the various band members onstage to close out the night with a cover of Black Sabbath‘s “Hole In The Sky“—complete with Anselmo on vocals.
Fan-filmed footage of that, plus Ellefson, Broderick, Portnoy, Bello and more running through a medley of Iron Maiden‘s “The Ides Of March” / “Transylvania” can be found below:
