Following years of declining sales, video game publisher Activision recently confirmed to various gaming media sites that they are shelving plans for current “Guitar Hero” video game related releases.
A statement from the publisher reads “due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011.” They later went on to state “These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”
This news follows the recent dropping of rival “Rock Band” developer Harmonix from the now scaled back MTV Games publishing unit. Harmonix also reportedly let go a considerable portion of their staff recently as well.
