Chimaira guitarist Matt DeVries will be stepping down from the band beginning September 22nd in order to tend to his girlfriend and the upcoming birth of their baby. In turn, the group have tapped Emil Werstler of Daath to fill in for him for the remainder of the European tour. DeVries will rejoin the band on October 29th, when the the group kick off their U.S. run with Trivium, Whitechapel and Dirge Within. The band had the following to offer on the situation:
Starting September 22nd, Emil Werstler of Daath will be filling in for Matt for the remainder of the European tour. Matt and his girlfriend are expecting a baby so he is flying home to be there in time for the birth of his son. He will be back on stage to rejoin Chimaira by the start of the Trivium tour (October 29th).
Matt had this to say – “This is going to be one of the happiest moments of my life and I want to thank the fans for understanding my absence. Emil is one of the most talented guitarists I have ever jammed with and I am fully confident he will do a fantastic job filling in. I’ll be back on stage riffing in a few weeks.”
Emil – “All I do is hang out and jam guitar, I’m looking forward to raging with these guys and jammin some f*ckin’ tunes for a good cause!”
