Sid Wilson Says Violent Altercation With “Clown” At A Slipknot Show Led To Him Joining The Band

Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson recently told the tale of how a violent altercation of sorts with the band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan led to him getting a spot in the band back around 1997-1998. Speaking to Brass Knuckles, he commented:

“‘Clown‘ was trying to tell me, ‘We’re crazy, we wear masks!’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I got it.’ He kept saying over and over, ‘I don’t think you get it.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, I don’t think you get it. I’m crazy, fool. I got it,’ I go and watch my first Slipknot show…, which also happens to be the first show that Ross Robinson goes to see, he produced Korn and Limp Bizkit and Sepultura… I didn’t even know who the guy was, I didn’t even meet him. They were very private about shit, so they weren’t trying to even tell me about what was going on.

So they’re playing and Clown decides… There’s a song called ‘Tattered and Torn’ and Clown comes off the stage on that song. He gets physical with fans — go down to the pit and they’d wrestle with them and he’d wrap a microphone cord around them and drag them across the floor.

It was like back, punk rock days, can’t do it now…

So, he decides he’s going to come down off the stage after me… So I just start coming over shoulders of people…. He’s right at the front by the monitors and I’m right there and I pull up and I grab his head and just start head-butting him as hard as I can.

I head-butt him six times. Oddly enough, that’s his number—six… I head-butted him six times, he pushed me away, he pushes himself away, like falls back on the stage. And he crawls back to the drums, and he’ll tell ya, even ask him, he was like ‘this dude’s trying to kill me.’ I was trying to knock him out… He went back to Joey [Jordison, drums] and he goes, ‘I don’t care what anybody says, that dude is in the band.'”
