Physically Handicapped Metallica Fan’s Bad Experience At Edmonton Show Goes Viral

My view of Metallica from the handicapped section at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. 7 hour drive for this 👍 from mildlyinfuriating

A physically handicapped Metallica fan by the name of Derrick Jones who traveled seven hours to catch the band’s August 16th live performance at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB found himself unable to fully enjoy the band’s set.

Jones, who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair, purchased wheelchair-accessible seating, however a number of fans standing in front of him obscured his view for the duration of the band’s set. An usher for the venue is said to have offered no help on the matter.

Jones commented to the CBC that other wheelchair-accessible seating had an elevated platform, while his did not. His story quickly went viral, making the front page of Reddit and attracting the attention of national media. The Commonwealth Stadium has since issued the below statement to CBC:

“We understand that Mr. Jones did not have a good experience at the Metallicaconcert at Commonwealth Stadium on Wednesday evening. We will reach out to him to better understand what happened in order to ensure a better experience for everyone in the future.”

Despite his inability to watch the performance, Jones did say that he had a good time and that the sound was great. The show was the final stop of the band’s North American ‘Worldwired Tour‘ and was livestreamed across the internet, you can watch it here.
