The 2014 ‘Revolver Golden Gods Awards‘ were handed out tonight, April 23rd, in a ceremony that took place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA. The awards show saw Slayer open with a surprise three-song set that included a new track titled “Implode” as well as “South Of Heaven” and “War Ensemble“.

Aside from some unfortunate technical issues and flubs—including Billy Sheehan accidentally awarding the ‘Paul Gray Best Bassist’ to Paul Gray—the show largely went down as planned.

Among the performances was Suicide Silence playing their first US show with their new frontman Eddie Hermida. They performed “You Only Live Once“, “No Pity For A Coward” and were joined by Soulfly‘s Max Cavalera for a cover of Sepultura‘s “Roots Bloody Roots“. The Pretty Reckless, A Day To Remember and Joan Jett And The Blackhearts all performed as well.

Zakk Wylde took to the piano for a solemn performance of Black Label Society‘s “In This River” amid a backdrop of metal and hard rock’s fallen heroes.

Meanwhile, after a lengthy soundcheck, Guns N’ Roses did indeed take to the stage with Duff McKagan; playing “It’s So Easy“, “Welcome To The Jungle“, “Better“, “This I Love“, “You Could Be Mine“, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “November Rain“—during which the live stream of the event abruptly cut off.

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose received the ‘Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award‘ award at the ceremony and Joan Jett was honored with the 2014 ‘Golden God Award‘.
