For Today Comment On Mike Reynolds’ Controversial Tweets, Various Bands React

For Today have spoken on the controversial comments their guitarist Mike Reynolds recently made regarding his views on homosexuality. The band had the following to say of that earlier today, January 10th:

For today has always and will always be a band that is about loving people, we have no hatred towards any people regardless of what they believe or how they live. We may not agree on everything but Jesus loves you and died for you. And so would we.
Blessings, For Today

For Today have found themselves under fire since the comments were made. Various bands have reacted to the comments, including: Stick To Your Guns drummer George Schmitz; plus members of The Ghost Inside, Touche Amore, This Is Hell, Counterparts, Trivium, This Or The Apocalypse and others.

Should’ve quoted them after the jump, This or the Apocalypse already pulled whatever it was they posted. Refreshing responses, with the best one belonging to Touche Amore.

      Jesus LOVED the gays.

It was actually a little weird at the time.

What he fucking hated was all these pussies making heavy music for the good lord. Talk about a buzzkill.

They are a Christian band ah? The dude spoke what he believed. Everyone is upset. If decide said being gay keeps the party in hell going strong would everyone react the same way? May not agree with it but he’s more then welcome to have his own view. Get the thumbs down ready for saying someone is allowed to preach to their own fans. Ps I have no idea who this band is.

I apologize if you’re not used to logic and reason, it can be frightening at first. So choosing a favorite color is akin to philosophical beliefs in your book, eh?

          Site idiot, meet Clemson.

Anyways, when you are in a band I believe you just shouldn’t make comments like this. Sure, share your opinion with your friends or whatever, or if a fan says they heard such and such, but don’t post it to twitter. Cause now he has ruined his bands reputation, and things aren’t going to be easy from this day forth for this band, who I actually have a enjoyed a few songs by. Being gay isn’t something that you can just choose. And if god is so loving, then this should be understood by his great and wise followers.

In all seriousness, I’m torn on homosexuality, it’s just not my bag and it’s never really added up to me. BUT – as a Christian, one of my biggest commandments is not to judge. I have two gay cousins and a bi aunt. I have many gay friends who I love dearly and would do anything for. And anyone who says two dudes in San Fran ramrodding each other is desecrating the sanctity of their marriage really needs to focus on their own marriage. More people need to mind their own fucking business and as long as the guy (or guys) next to you aren’t harming you, then STFU and live and let live. Praise Jesus.

    • I find it ironic that this judgmental tool mentions Django Unchained in a recent tweet. Wasn’t that movie based on slavery in which religious zealots used the bible to justify the oppression of black people? What’s next, is this guy going to say interracial marriage is a sin?

    • What’s with all this “He has the right to have an opinion” b.s. all of the sudden?
This is not a musical preference or a favorite color kind of opinion.
This is a belief dictating that if a person is born with a preference towards the same sex, they’ll most probably burn in damnation for all eternity.
People are entitled to That opinion? I thought the whole opinion entitlement thing was only valid until you wished harm upon others.
Cause you know, without in any way making a direct comparison, herr fuhrer was merely acting on his beliefs. So there’s obviously a limit, right?
So yea, I’m gonna have a well defined and opposing reaction to an opinion that envisions eternal suffering towards people that have done nothing to deserve it. He can shove his opinion up the self-righteous elitist closed minded asshole it came from.

      • No one is wishing harm of Homosexuals. He is a Christian. It is stated readily in the Bible that homosexuality is wrong. He is mad at the Church for conforming. You all know that this is the view of Christians. We do believe homosexuality to be immoral. Everyone knows this. Why is this a big deal, it if is common knowledge Chrstians believe that, and we all know this guy is in a christian band?

        • Okay, harm is not specifically wished upon a Homosexual by a Christian, but it is expected within the belief that harm will eventually fall upon the “sinner”.
But you can see why a group’s denying the valid nature of another group’s right to love and manifest said love, will attract negative reactions, right?
My intention was in no way to start a religious debate though, which is why I didn’t call out any groups.

I get pissed when bands i like say dumb shit. But a metal Christian band can push what ever view of Christianity they want. As long as they are not saying lets kill gays or any act of terror is ok then I don’t care. Same for any other religion metal group. Now if Greg from Dillinger said something like this then it’s “hey man we know u do a lot of nonchristian shit and this is hypocritical and taints music I like”

Typical gospel-core rhetoric, why so surprised? These bands exists only to proselytize. It’s not about the music, it’s about their message; without which they wouldn’t be a band. Check out the band Corelia if you haven’t yet and by the way, have faith in yourself. \m/

    • According to the bibble (rhymes with drivel), being gay is wrong, but so is not accepting Jebus as your savior or whatever… so, all the gays and EVERYONE ELSE who isn’t a christian eventually burn in hell, right? For eternity. Right??? So… next time your christian buddy talks about how horrible the Holocaust was, call BULLSHIT!!!! Hitler was doing everyone a favor by purging the world of all the non-believers, man!! He was just more proactive about his “conversion” process… I’m sure your christian buddy will agree with that – to not do so would be quite hypocritical.

The old testament was written when religion and politics were one and the same, so sinning and breaking the law followed the same logic. Homosexuality was frowned upon, because it destroyed the exogamous transfer of power and property between groups. It was even worse for females, because a daughter that couldn’t be married off was essentially worthless. There are also some things in there about a widow having to marry the brother in law and smashing children over rocks, but we tend to reinterpret parts that don’t quite work for us. This guy is most definetly entitled to his beliefs. He is most definetly entitled to be in a shitty band. I personally do not agree with him on either front, and will do my best to ensure my children aren’t ever in his shoes. That being said, I hope he and those like him continue to post. It makes for entertaining reading.

If Mr. Reynolds is so keen on the bible, one has to wonder why he would be working this upcoming Sunday. Sunday is the Sabbath after all. The bible would have me kill him for working on such a day.

    • “Unfortunately though, this is another case where religion, with it’s hubristic scriptures and dogmas has produced a false confidence, an ego, devoid of all logic and morality. This is where Religion gets dangerous. When people think they have God on their side, they don’t actually stop to think how utterly illogical and immoral they may be being. This is the same mentality we see of suicide bombers and in religious war etc.”

From R Reynolds (Enter Shakiri) – I thought this to be particularly well-put though like “For Today” I am not familiar with their muzikz….

    • I find the whole “love who you want to love” argument highly entertaining. Would you apply that same logic to someone who “loves” children or “loves” animals?

That being said, there’s definitely a difference between two people engaging in a consensual act of love and one person taking advantage of another’s innocence.

Regardless, he’s got the right to his own opinion just as much everyone who is upset by his opinion has the right to their own opinions.

Lastly, he never said anything about hating homosexuals, just that he didn’t view it as Christian behavior. There’s plenty of things my friends, family (and myself) are guilty of that I would view as un-Christian behavior, but it doesn’t mean that I hate them (or myself, for that matter).

You answered your own question, numbnuts. If the individual is able to make a consensual decision to enter into a physical/emotional relationship then the answer is yes. As much as preists and the lead singer of Lostprophets wish that were true, children and animals are not capable of this.

I thought this at first, but I think he actually covered that in his second paragraph. I guess you could say love who you want to, but that doesn’t mean you can have sex with them. I’m not sure what his point was, but from what he typed – two consenting homosexuals should be fine in his book.

        • I hold the viewpoint that homosexuality is a sin, but just as forgivable as any sin I, myself, am guilty of. I don’t believe at all that homosexuals are automatically condemned to hell, because it is by faith that we are saved. I also don’t believe in the idea of government limiting the right to marriage. Just because I don’t necessarily agree with it doesn’t mean I don’t believe that homosexuals don’t have the right to get married. In fact, I would rather see a committed homosexual couple get married than a selfish, unfaithful heterosexual couple. Government needs to get out of marriage and simply provide civil unions. Let churches and private institutions deal with the sacrament of marriage however they see fit.

Also, Chrisitans need to stop focusing so much on the issue of homosexuality and start focusing more time and energy into philanthropic endeavors. Time to start bringing about positive change in the world, rather than spreading hate and fear. Some churches are really doing it well, but not very many.

Being a homosexual is a right, according to the United States Constitution, to be free and pursue your happiness, no matter what that is. So no man or institution can judge you for that, So God created males and females, and in addition created homosexuals. I do not believe that anyone has a choice on their sexual preference, it is who they are. So people that use the bible as a anti gay device should look a little closer at the contradicting bible that has cause years of bloodshed to the people that didn’t agree with it. I dont believe in the principle of using the bible to fight wars and kill innocent people, it was not meant to discriminate against any race or kin of people. The bible was merely a guideline to deter the human race against evil that had inflicted previous generations. It is a good idea to lead a healthy and pure life and to help your fellow man in life, not because a ancient book tells you to. Think for yourself and make your life the best you can. In return, doing so will, give your life meaning and a pleasure that is something that you cannot buy.

    • Wow… I will still listen to them as I like their music. A lot of band members say or do some fucked up shit. To me it is only whether I like the music or not (or no musician has done something horrible enough to make me boycott anything they do).

This guitarist is obviously a very silly person, and anyone who believes in gods, heaven and hell, and all their rules, and lives their life based on such fantasies are also silly people.

They should watch Clash of The Titans, because one day their religion will become a summer blockbuster as well. Or just add Jesus into the third movie…

THAT’S one thing that has always made me laugh, we can see even older religions disproven, and become stories like Clash of The Titans… and yet people sucked into modern religions have no idea they are believing in ridiculous stories like this… it is craziness….

This guitarist is a couple paragraphs away from joining the Westboro Baptist Church I think… what an idiot.

in MY religion, niggers, wetbacks, slant-eyes, fags, bitches, retards, cripples, and octaroons are all living in sin just by being who/what they are, and will burn in hell for eternity. Any COMBINATION of any of those things will burn in special DOUBLE-hell, which is just like regular hell, but twice as hot. But thats my religion, which makes it okay for me to be such a holier-than-thou hateful douchenozzle. the other guys in my band feel the exact same way i do, but they were smart enough to save face and distant themselves from my outburst of hate speech. Also, now that all this negative publicity has made you aware of us, please check out our shitty christian “metal”.

I actually liked For Today’s new album, but this whole thing is just a shitstorm they could have easily avoided. Unfortunately, everyone wants their much deserved attention, and Twitter makes it easy to get. The solution to all of these recent problems bands are having is very simple: Just keep your mouth shut and focus on your music. Let the music speak for itself, and maybe if these bands would put that much more into their music, it would be that much better. Also, how Christian-like was it for For Today to give their guitar player the boot? I thought forgiveness was just as important as your faith? Don’t take this as me being Mr. Christian, I’m just saying… If they want to preach it so much, their actions should do the same.
