I’m not sure why anybody would support Tool these days, but there’s sheep everywhere, I guess. I’m just glad that Intronaut will gain some more fans and exposure. Long overdue for those guys.
You answered your own question. They’ll also get a hefty check for remaining in tow with a band who champions their openers – a gig many a band would kill for.
Danny Walker and Joe Lester are rather incredible live.
I was speaking about fans supporting Tool, not the supporting act. Any band would be crazy not to take that gig, but as a loooooong time Tool fan, I’ve gotta draw the line somewhere. Sorry about the confusion.
Supporting an iconic band makes you a sheep huh? If that’s the case, this is one of the rare occasions where the “flock” actually got it right. Say what you want about a stale setlist or one album that’s arguably below their normally high standards, but each member of Tool is a master of their craft. It takes a completely clueless individual to not appreciate what Tool is capable of live. There is nothing wrong with supporting one of the only modern bands deserving of their status as an arena headliner. And good for them for bringing Intronaut along. This continues the long tradition of Tool touring with respectable bands. Thanks to Tool I’ve been fortunate enough to see the Melvins and Meshuggah (x2).
You’re putting words into my mouth. I never denied their talent. I’m tired of the touring with no new material, I’m tired of them toying with us about new material on the way. That’s it. I figured someone as intellectual and completely not clueless as you would have grasped that.
you didn’t make that clear at all dude, no need to insult other people’s intelligence because you posted an ambiguous statement
He started it!
I’ll go on record and state that the last 2 Tool albums, nearly 50% of their total output, has consisted of at the bare minimum of 20 mins of filler…not to mention the last 30 mins of Lateralus being nothing but filler. It was enough for me to draw the line. Adding 5 year waits between albums when pulling that stunt is outright ridiculous.
I’ll go on record and state that you have lost your fucking mind. sure, they put some “noise” parts on their records between and at the end of songs but to say that they are a band with “filler” is just crazy.
wtf, Disposition and Reflection are fantastic. Just because they’re not your personal cut of tea doesn’t make them filler.
10,000 Days was more problematic to me because it didn’t hold together as an album or form any sort of larger cohesive whole than because of any perceived filler.

Also, let’s not forget that even 20 minutes of filler still leaves a solid 50 minute record.
Are you really going to true to argue that Disposition/Reflection/Triad are filler because there are very few words? Some would argue that this actuallly the best part of “Lateralus,” and when they played those three in a row live for the “Lateralus” tour, it was mindblowing, and to me, the highlight of the set.
Maybe you need to open your mind a bit to some innovative song structures and experimentation. They aren’t going to keep making “Undertow” every few years – essentially straightforward rock songs – to keep a few old fans happy.
Tool’s experimentation, typically live, is what sets them apart from others. That is why I could care less what setlist they bring out live – they are always amazing. Even songs I didn’t particularly care for on record (“Pushit” for example), often end up being spectacular live.
I am obviously a fan, but I can see things objectively as well. I would agree that “10,000 Days” was not their best, and had some filler on it. But the stuff from that album slays live, as does pretty much everything they do.
This band is not going to pander to a specific audience, style, or structure. If you can accept that and evolve with them, than enjoy the ride. If you want something a little more straightforward, go see Five Finger Death Punch and Disturbed, they won’t disappoint. :/

I wouldn’t waste energy arguing about their output. They do what they do and obviously they are not going to make the same album twice. That said, I won’t be going to this tour because I am unemployed, but let the noobs check them out, the shows will probably sell out and I have seen my fair share of good ones.
Honestly, we should all be happy that a band as good as Tool are still around.

I hope Intronaut is doing the whole tour. They are a nice fit with Tool, should get a decent reaction, and I would be excited to see them.
