Downset. have drawn upon their own catalog as inspiration for their new album, “One Blood“. The ‘classic era’ lineup of that outfit are scheduled to drop that new effort this coming Tuesday, July 21st without so much as an advance track available. Guitarist Brian Ares Schwager recently told Lithiummagazine.com:
“From 2005 on Rey and I have been working on a record, but from the first record through to the Universal record there was a span of different material, with Check your People probably being the heaviest of them all. Our Universal album went more towards our first album with some attempts to do more commercial things. At this point our influences are no longer Black Sabbath and Slayer and Metallica; the influence is ourselves.
We listened to all four of OUR records. This was what the world perceived Downset as, so let’s go write some songs AS Downset. When James came back and got involved, it just became more of an original Downset vibe. We got hold of Chris Hamilton again because we needed a drummer, and the stuff he has been doing since Check Your People (Bloodsimple, Give ‘Em Rope) has brought a really heavy vibe to this record. I produced One Blood, and didn’t put any restraints on him. Chris (Hamilton) already knows Downset. I didn’t want him to feel like he had to try be Chris (Lee) on this album.”
Dates currently booked in support of the album include:
