King 810‘s thuggish reputation has thus far had more impact than their music, but the group are quick to point out violence plays a large part in their songs as well. Band vocalist David Gunn tells Detroitnews.com that getting shot in an attempted armed robbery in the groups hometown of Flint, MI was the turning point for him and the band to embrace the grittier side of their surroundings:
“I got shot, and along with it, I realized we weren’t making music that represented how life was like where we were from. It wasn’t a true representation, as far as how vivid it was. It was kind of vague and poetic and metaphorical, and I realized it was getting lost on a lot of people. So when that happened, I just wanted to make people understand it, make it more cohesive and digestible for people to get exactly what we’re saying and doing.”
King 810 will release their new full-length album “Memoirs Of A Murderer” through Roadrunner on August 19th. They are currently out on the road as part of this years ‘Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival‘
