Bullet For My Valentine drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas has told Billboard.com that they are looking both forwards and backwards on their new album. Speaking on the direction of the material written thus far, he offered:

“It’s definitely more of a step towards our first two records. We always like to keep changing our records and our sounds and stuff. I think you have to change, otherwise it gets boring for us and the fans get bored. Look at all the great bands through rock history; they changed on all their albums — especially Metallica. Their albums have always changed, and they’re the biggest metal band ever. So we just want to keep changing and get to another level each time out.”

As the band had previously reported, they will be entering the studio shortly after their December headlining tour to begin work on the new album with producer Terry Date (Deftones, Pantera). It was not yet sure if the group will be working with him entirely on the new effort however as the sessions are meant to serve as a testing of the waters.
