Elder have been reunited with their bassist Jack Donovan. The latter was hospitalized for pneumonia while on tour in Portland, OR last month, leading the heavy psych band to postpone their touring plans.
In a post shared by the band yesterday, October 09th, it was revealed that Donovan also wound up undergoing open-heart surgery for a serious congenital heart issue during his time in the hospital. The band stated on social media:
“Dear world, Jack is back!
15 days ago, we were in the middle of our North American tour with @blackwaterholylight in Portland when Jack suddenly became violently sick. Friends got him to the ER where he was then moved to an ICU unit and diagnosed with pneumonia, put on a ventilator and sedated. We literally have their quick action to thank for his life.
Over the coming days we learned that Jack had been struggling with some serious congenital heart issues for some time, which were actually the root cause of his illness. Two weeks and one open heart surgery later, Jack is out of the hospital and well on the road to a full recovery.
We would like to thank everyone for your kind words and support over the past weeks. These have been difficult and scary times for us, compounded by the fact that this happened in the middle of a tour and far from home. We’ve seen your comments and deeply appreciate every one of them. Special thanks to the amazing team at the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for taking great care of our bassmaster.
As far as the postponed shows go, we are VERY CLOSE to having makeup dates rescheduled and will be announcing them as soon as we can. Please bear with us a bit longer. This is a very unusual and complicated situation for us. We appreciate your support and patience.
