GRAMMY Award-winning progressive sludge metal band Mastodon have announced a new limited edition vinyl pressing of their current album “Marrow Deep” featuring actual mastodon teeth. The band explained of that:
“About 20 years ago, we were given a giant bag of mastodon teeth… not display-worthy fossils, but a collection of teeth that left us wondering what to do with them. Troy eventually had the wild idea to turn them into powder and press them directly into a vinyl record. Huge thanks to Loma Vista Recordings for connecting us with Waxworks to make this dream a reality!”
Given the scracity of the material to work with, only 170 copies of this pressing are being made available. You can register for a raffle via i.mastodonrocks.com/bonedust for a shot at getting your hands on a copy, which the band personally helped manufacture. Below you can watch the group oversee that process via a making of video, which involved a local geology department to mill the teeth and matter into a fine enough powder to be included in the vinyl.
