Pop rocker Beabadoobee issued her fourth studio album “Pylon” last Friday, September 18th. That outing sported an impressive roster of cameos, including Turnstile vocalist Brendan Yates on the song “Powerlines” and Paramore‘s Haley Williams on “Nothing To Prove“.
Also appearing on that album is Deftones vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno. He guests on the closing song, “Satellite“, which was co-written by Shane Moran of Title Fight fame. During her newly released appearance on Amoeba Music‘s long-running ‘What’s In My Bag?’ series Beabadoobee spoke of her admiration for both Title Fight and Deftones, as well as her experience getting to work with Chino.
She also went on to say that she actually recorded two tracks with Chino during the “Pylon” sessions, with the second song expected to see a release sometime in the future.
That discussion was spurred by one of Beabadoobee‘s vinyl selections during her time at Amoeba Music‘s Hollywood location, which was copy of Deftones‘ trailblazing 2000 album “White Pony“.
Beabadoobee said of it and Moreno in the below video [transcribed by theprp.com]:
“[It’s] like one of the best albums of all time, I think. All their albums are incredible and their new one [“private music] is literally up there, which is insane, Like you still got it, bro. I’ve been privileged enough to work with Chino on my new record. He screams with me on the last song. We actually made two songs together. You know, eventually we’ll put [them both] out ’cause I love ’em so much. But yeah, all I really needed was to scream with Chino. You know, it’s a dream come true.
The thing about Deftones is that their riffs go so hard, and their drum beats go so hard, and then Chino‘s vocals and melodies just soar over it like freakin’ Frank Sinatra or something crazy, you know? Like it’s so melodic what he does. And often when I found like when we were working in the studio together, he’d like come up with prettier… Like I was like, ‘All right, so we’re going to scream and like do this shit, like yeah.’
And then he would like like come up with the most beautiful melodies.” [And I’m like, ‘This dude rocks.’ And we went to a horror nights which was lit… I love him so much. He’s like my main inspiration of how I move on stage, especially with like this new record. Like he moves like a rapper, and then someone jumped in front of him [at the horror nights event] and he did the move. He was like ‘whoa.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, he did it. He did the thing.” But he doesn’t know ’cause he’s just so naturally cool. God. Oh. To be that naturally cool. Wonder what that’s like?”
