Mastodon‘s brand new single “In The Ruins” has met its online debut. The GRAMMY Award-winning progressive sludge metal outfit had Hey Beautiful Jerk direct the below animated music video for this latest cut. Speaking of their vision for the song, the latter said in a statement:
“The initial inspiration for Frank and the concept for ‘In The Ruins‘ came to me when I was in the ER for 10 hours with the worst eye infection of my life. The pain was so bad it felt like my eye was revolting and wanted to escape my head. I had just talked to Brann about the meaning of the song and how it was inspired by his and Troy‘s recent losses. The expression ‘picking up the pieces’ came to me and I sketched a very rough version of Frank on my phone, capturing the idea as fast as I could before my eye wanted to escape my face once again.”
“In The Ruins” has been launched as the third advance single from Mastodon‘s forthcoming new album “Marrow Deep“. That outing is due to arrive on August 28th through Loma Vista and carries the unfortunate distinction of being the band’s first record without the involvement of their late guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds.
It also marks the first time both guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira were involved in the studio process together with the band.
