Texan rap rocker Hyro The Hero has penned a tribute to one of the most infamous musical moments of the 90s, ‘Woodstock ’99“. The source of multiple documentaries since, that festival was held in July of 1999 and featured the likes of Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Rage Against The Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among countless others. Despite the feelgood origins of the ‘Woodstock‘ festival, capitalism and punishing weather saw that concert turn ugly. As those poor conditions exacerbated, violence, riots that festival structures being burned, and rapes took place.
While many were quick to point blame at the abundance of heavy music on the bill as being the cause for incitement (Limp Bizkit‘s rowdy set received much of the blowback,) subsequent documentaries have instead concluded that a lack of amenities, along with overpriced essentials in water and food, and punishing weather conditions with little shelter played a considerable role in causing the chaos that would ensue at the fest.
Hyro co-wrote this new song with former Asking Alexandria guitarist/vocalist Ben Bruce, who also co-produced it. The opening verses quickly establish Hyro‘s intent with the song, as he states:
