With their reunion tour in full swing, there’s been a flurry of activity in the Rush camp to report on as of late. The Canadian prog rock hall of famers intend to capture their string of hometown shows in Toronto, Ontario that kickoff tonight (August 07th) for a potential future live film. Those shows will take place at the Scotiabank Arena on August 07th, 09th, 11th & 13th. The band have of course enlisted drummer Anika Nilles in place of the late, great Neil Peart for their live return this year.
Vocalist/bassist, etc. Geddy Lee said of that filming yesterday:
“It’s always a hard decision as to where to film a live concert. Given the limited cities we are able to play, the demand for such a film has been off the charts, not only as a keepsake of their experience, but for those many fans that have not been able to see it live.
Toronto being hometown made it a natural choice, and being the last mini-residency of 4 shows, playing over 40 songs which gives us the best chance to capture it all.
We know there are fans traveling here from all across the globe and that will make it a special week. This tour, being a celebration of our history and a tribute to Neil has been an emotional outpouring from the fans and from us. They have been louder and prouder than ever before, and we hope to capture them letting their ya-yas out while rockin’ their best ‘Tom Sawyer‘ air drum fills!”
Additionally, the band’s fourth studio album, 1976’s “2112” has newly been certified 4x platinum in the United States. The RIAA issued that new certification today, August 07th. The album last hit 3x platinum status in November of 1995. It’s perfect timing for the group, given that a 50th anniversary edition of “2112” will be arriving on October 02nd via UMe/Mercury/Anthem Records. October 02nd will also see the band’s 2003 greatest hits compilation “The Spirit Of Radio: Greatest Hits 1974-1987” receive its vinyl debut, with pre-orders available via rush.lnk.to/TheSpiritOfRadio.
