As they are known to do, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo paid tribute to some local musical heroes during the thrash metal icons’ set yesterday, July 05th in London, England. Their latest ‘doodle’ resulted in impromptu covers of Black Sabbath‘s “Electric Funeral” and Sex Pistols‘ “Holidays In The Sun“. The inclusion of a nod to Sabbath was a fitting gesture, given that yesterday also served as the first anniversary of ‘Back To The Beginning” — the farewell show for Black Sabbath and their late frontman Ozzy Osbourne. Fan-filmed footage is available below.
Metallica were among the esteemed guests who paid tribute to the aforementioned metal icons during that festival, which ultimately became Ozzy‘s final live performance, as he sadly passed away not long afterwards. Metallica for their part covered Black Sabbath‘s “Hole In The Sky” at ‘Back To The Beginning‘.
